Atlantis playing in its first match of the 2019 NY Metropolitan Cricket Association league defeated Punjab Cricket Club by five wickets at Beach 32 in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY.
Punjab won the toss and elected to bat, but were 1o for 1 in the third over, losing opener Bilal Ahmed bowled by Hugo D’Oliviera for one run. Ahmed’s opening partner Waseem Shahzad would hold on to score a defiant 63 off 38 balls, including 5x4s and 6x6s. He would end up as the top scorer behind teammate Rizwan Akram, 57 off 62 deliveries with two boundaries and four maximums. He was c. Alex Amsterdam b. Kumar Joseph. Punjab would go on to post 195 all out in 38.3 overs.
The Punjab wickets fell at 10, 58, 77, 97, 97, 143, 148, 159, 185 and 195. Bowling for Atlantis: Keon Lake was the pick of the litter with figures of 6-0-43-4. Hugo D’Oliviera grabbed 2 for 27 off 6 overs and Trinson Carmichael, Prashanth Nair and Kumar Joseph each snared one wicket each for 21, 27 and 29 respectively.
Atlantis in response was off to a 40-run opening stand between Randall Wilson and Keon Lake, before Wilson departed for 12 via lbw from Umer Hanif. Skipper Alex Amsterdam enjoyed a knock of 47 off 39 balls, including 5x4s and 2x6s. Other contributors were Keon Lake, 36, Trinson Carmichael 36, Treon Forde, 23 and Kumar Joseph, 16, as Atlantis punched a W at 196 for 5 in 29.3 overs.
Bowling for Punjab: Adeel Ahmed with 2 for 42 off 7 overs was the most successful bowler, while the other three Atlantis wickets were taken by Umer Hanif, Rizwan Akram and Ata Khan. The Atlantis wickets fell at 40, 85, 127, 161 and 187.
